Laser Therapy

LASER THERAPY FOR DOGS & CATS

Laser therapy provides a revolutionary new approach for treating many of our animal patients needs. From the treatment of pain following a traumatic injury to post surgery treatments to assist with wound healing, laser therapy can be a complementary and effective treatment solution for all kinds of animals.

LASER FOR WOUND HEALING

Laser therapy can significantly reduce healing time for all kinds of wounds including:

POST SURGERY

We’ve found healing time to be dramatically reduced when applied at regular intervals a few times after surgery. This is particularly beneficial after major or orthopaedic surgery where full recovery may take several weeks – even months.

OPEN WOUNDS

Sometimes wounds are not suitable for suturing so they need to be managed as open wounds. This invariably involves multiple, regular trips back to your vet for evaluation, cleaning and dressing. Some of these wounds require weeks of treatment to achieve total healing. In these situations the application of Laser to the wound speeds up the healing process. A win win situation for you and your pet.

What Is Laser Therapy?

Platinum Series Class IV therapeutic lasers deliver specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a photochemical reaction and therapeutic effect. Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduced inflammation, pain reduction and enhanced tissue healing. Laser therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970s and was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.

Laser Therapeutic Effects

During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

Cellular Effects

During laser therapy, infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level increasing metabolic activity within the cell. By improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane, the increased production of cellular energy (ATP) is stimulated. The cascade of beneficial effects that follows includes increased cellular function and tissue repair.

Where Do Clinical Results Really Come From?

There is always some debate as to which are the “right” parameters for which conditions. Conditions do not absorb light, tissues do, and more specifically, the photon absorbing chromophore. Beyond that, there are a variety of mechanisms involved that need to be stimulated. To this end, Platinum Series therapy lasers employ the broadest range of wavelengths and frequencies targeting each relevant tissue type. Each step in the bio-modulation mechanism, within every treatment, will have the greatest chance of enhancing all healing processes involved.

Why Is It Necessary to Use Different Frequencies?

It has been well established that different pulse frequencies elicit different physiological responses. During laser therapy, it is beneficial to deliver a variety of pulse frequencies. K-Laser USA has taken everything known about the makeup of each anatomical part and modified the settings to target just the right amount of bone, soft tissue, and fat. The Platinum Series’ approach uses the largest variety of laser parameters utilizing multiple distinct phases within each protocol. This dynamic range, combining up to 4 wavelengths and frequencies from CW to 20,000 Hz, has the best chance at stimulating all of the body’s cells to heal themselves more efficiently.
